NorthWest Majors 3 Day 2 and 3
December 1, 2011 in Tournament Experience
Day 2
This is actually the first day of the event, but since I came here the night before so I would call this the day 2. This day is teams only for SSF4AE and MVC3 so nothing too excited. I teamed up with WeirdoNeo (Juri) and his friend from Alaska, (sorry I forgot his name…something like Becky? Beckham or Benkin…something with Be..lol -_-) who used Yun, and we placed third in the team tournament losing to Hiro, Happy Medicine and Kineda’s team and beating my local scene’s team.
I don’t want to be rude, but the team tournament format was pretty stupid…having best 3 out of 5 rounds instead of 2….I mean I understand that since that was the only event of the day and it might be necessary to drag the tournament longer. But instead of making each set as 3 out of 5 rounds, I think it should have been double elimination. I personally dislike 3 out of 5 rounds mainly because you have to manage your meter much more different and especially for Ryu. For example, against Dhalsim or Blanka, if I won the first round, I should have super in the second which made the match up much easier, but when it comes to best 3 out of 5, even if I won the first round, and used my super to win the second round, I would end up with no meters in stock in the third round. Therefore, most likely my opponent will have meters which I might lose that round, then it’s a cycle until the fifth round (That’s the real round). I don’t know if I am expressing myself clearly, but yah….best 3 out of 5 in SF is really stupid IMO.
After the team tournaments I had several money matches and we went back to Kevin’s place after the venue was closed. We went back and checked which pool we were in and what time it starts. I don’t remember clearly but I was in either pool 8 or 10 and so were my friends. We assumed our pool won’t start until probably between 3-5pm?
Day 3
I got woken up by Kevin’s phone call at around 11am..YES 11 am, he was like “yo, they are starting pool the first and last two pools first” something like that so he hurried my ass to get ready. So my friends and I had to get ready at the same time because we don’t even know wtf is going on and when do the pools start exactly. I got to say that we were lucky to stay at Kevin’s mansion since there was more than one bathroom. Kevin came home to pick us up and we got into the venue realizing that our pool didn’t even start. I was pretty mad with the lack of sleep and as expected, the tournament schedule was not clearly written………………..argh….anyways it was finally my turn and I made my way out of the pool as winner.
After I was done my part, I was waiting for my friends and none of them made it out of their pool except “SCHOWT”, a Gen user, who also made it out as a winner. Once SSF4AE singles was done, they immediately shifted over to MVC3, if I remembered correctly there weren’t any more free setups for people to play SSF4AE. My friend who lives in Seattle, Ahmed showed up and he brought us to the international district (my first time being there, even though it was probably the 10th time being in Seattle…never knew this kind of place existed until he showed me). He brought us to this HK café…I think it’s called the “HK Bistro” or something, and I was surprised it actually tasted very good. I actually had a lot of fun outside of the tournament visiting places I have never been to and talking about stupid shit. It was funny.
Xian had to play MVC3 singles so he didn’t come with us but asked me to get him food back to the venue. We ordered his food and paid the bill, and then we walked out of the restaurant and followed Ahmed to his car. While we were walking, across the street there was this black guy running towards us saying “HEY HEY”! We obviously ignored him and kept walking…..and his guy just ran behind us saying “BRUCE LEE, BRANDON LEE, BRUCE LEE, BRANDON LEE….” Kept repeating them and then RAN pass us and turned to us and started repeating the same words. We reached Ahmed’s car and the black guy was walking away from us repeating those words and adding “FUCK U” to it. Well well well..pretty interesting..didn’t expect to run into a crazy black guy first time being at the international district, lol. We had a great laugh at that dude and started intimidating him in the car.
We got back to the tournament venue, gave the food to Xian and there were SSF4AE setups for players to play on. I hopped on and played few more money matches then I totally forgot what happened after, lol.
I am sure we followed Ahmed car back to Kevin’s house because we didn’t have a GPS…then I think I passed out while my friends were playing SSF4AE upstairs.

Should’ve given that guy the 1-inch punch..
